Paul Molitor of the Brewers had a 39-game hitting streak stopped on this date in 1987. He was on deck when Rick Manning drove in the winning run in the bottom of the tenth inning — and Manning was booed for winning the game instead of giving the 0-4 Molitor another at-bat.

The Giants’ Joe “Iron Man” McGinnity pitched three doubleheaders in 1903, winning all six games, including a sweep of the Dodgers on this date in 1903. He also went 4-for-7 at the plate and stole home for the winning run in the second game. He won 31 games and pitched more than 400 innings in 1903!
